Horizon West Pet Fest: How a New Community Tradition Is Growing

Horizon West has changed a lot over the years.

What was once a rapidly developing collection of villages has grown into one of Central Florida’s most active communities, filled with families, local businesses, neighborhood events – and a whole lot of pets.

At The Savvy Sitter, we have had a front-row seat to that growth. We care for pets throughout Horizon West every day, so seeing an event created specifically around the people and animals who call this community home feels especially fitting.

Today, Horizon West Pet Fest is becoming one of the area’s signature pet-friendly traditions.

And for The Savvy Sitter, it has been part of our community calendar from the very beginning.

It Started With Horizon West Happenings

Long before there was a dedicated Pet Fest, Horizon West Happenings was already helping create events designed to bring residents, businesses, organizations, and neighbors together.

The organization has played a major role in creating community traditions as Horizon West has grown, including larger events such as Horizon West Fest and Flavor Fest.

Eventually, pets deserved a celebration of their own.

That idea became Horizon West Pet Fest.

The Inaugural Horizon West Pet Fest

The first Horizon West Pet Fest took place in October 2024 at the Hamlin Green Space.

The event brought together pet parents, animal lovers, rescues, local businesses, vendors, and pet professionals for a morning centered completely around the animals who are such a big part of Horizon West life.

The inaugural festival included pet vendors, rescue organizations, games, food, music, contests, pet photography, caricatures, and plenty of opportunities for people to meet others within the local pet community.

And yes—there were a lot of dogs.

For The Savvy Sitter, that first year was especially memorable because we were there for the inaugural event.

We set up our booth, brought treat bags and pet goodies, and introduced what became one of our favorite Pet Fest traditions:

Pumpkin Pup Cups.

The Pumpkin Pup Cups were a perfect fit for an October pet festival, and judging by the enthusiastic reactions from the dogs who stopped by, they were a hit.

We also loved having a chance to meet pet parents face-to-face.

Most of our work happens inside clients’ homes or while we are out walking their dogs, so a community event like Pet Fest gives families a chance to actually meet the people behind The Savvy Sitter.

Current clients can put more faces to the names they see in their visit reports.

New families can ask questions about professional pet sitting and dog walking.

And our team gets to spend the morning talking about pets while meeting an impressive number of them.

That is a pretty good workday.

Why Horizon West Was Ready for a Pet Fest

If you spend any amount of time in Horizon West, the popularity of a pet-centered festival makes perfect sense.

This is a community where pets are part of everyday life.

Dogs are walking through Hamlin, Waterleigh, Independence, Lakeside Village, Summerlake, Storey Grove, and neighborhoods throughout the area every day.

You might not know the name of the person who lives a few streets over, but you probably recognize the Golden Retriever they walk every morning.

Pets become part of how neighbors meet one another.

That is something we see constantly at The Savvy Sitter.

Our team is out in these neighborhoods seven days a week.

We see puppies grow into adult dogs.

We meet newly adopted pets.

We care for senior pets as their routines and needs change.

We welcome new families moving into the area.

And we meet plenty of neighbors because someone inevitably stops to ask about the dog we are walking.

Pet Fest takes those little neighborhood interactions and turns them into one big community event.

Pet Fest Returns

After the inaugural festival, Horizon West Pet Fest returned in 2025, bringing another round of pets, costumes, vendors, local businesses, and families together.

That second year helped show that this was becoming more than a one-time event.

A tradition was starting.

Families returned.

Businesses returned.

Pets returned.

And some dogs seemed to take the costume portion of the festival very seriously.

That continued growth says something important about Horizon West.

This community does not simply have a lot of pets.

It has a strong pet culture.

Dogs join their families at outdoor restaurants.

Neighbors recognize each other from walking routes.

Pet-care businesses, rescues, veterinarians, groomers, trainers, pet sitters, and dog walkers are woven into the community.

Pet Fest gives all of those worlds a place to meet.

More Than Cute Dogs in Costumes

Now, to be clear:

We are completely supportive of cute dogs in costumes.

But an event like Horizon West Pet Fest does something bigger too.

It introduces residents to the professional pet-care resources available right in their own community.

Someone considering adopting a dog might meet a rescue organization.

A new puppy parent may discover a trainer.

A family might meet a veterinarian, groomer, pet sitter, or dog walker they did not know was nearby.

Someone planning their first vacation since adopting a pet may learn what professional in-home pet care looks like.

And local businesses have an opportunity to introduce themselves as real people rather than simply another logo on a website or social-media feed.

In pet care, those relationships matter.

You are sometimes deciding who will be trusted inside your home and responsible for an animal you consider family.

That trust often starts with a conversation.

The Savvy Sitter and the Horizon West Pet Community

For us, being part of Pet Fest is a natural extension of what we already do.

The Savvy Sitter has been providing professional pet sitting and dog walking since 2015, serving families throughout Winter Garden, Windermere, and Horizon West.

Our team is in these communities every day.

We know the neighborhoods.

We know the afternoon Florida thunderstorms.

We know how quickly the pavement can heat up.

We know which dogs want a long sniffari and which ones complete their business and immediately vote to return to the air conditioning.

And most importantly, we get to know the individual pets and families who make this area feel like a community.

Pet Fest allows us to bring that relationship out into the open.

Instead of meeting one family during a scheduled consultation or visit, we get to meet dozens of pet parents in one morning.

And instead of clients only seeing individual team members through pet-care reports, they can stop by and meet members of The Savvy Sitter team in person.

Come Meet the Team

One of our favorite parts of Horizon West Pet Fest is simply getting the chance to talk.

If you have ever wondered what professional pet sitting looks like behind the scenes, this is a perfect opportunity to ask.

You can meet members of our team, learn about our services, talk with us about your pets, and ask questions about everything from dog walking to vacation pet care.

Current Savvy Sitter clients are always welcome to stop by and say hello too.

It is especially fun when someone comes to the booth and says:

“Oh! You’re the person I always see in the pet reports!”

And, of course, there are usually treats involved.

At our inaugural Pet Fest appearance, that meant our now-famous Pumpkin Pup Cups, treat bags, and other goodies for the four-legged attendees.

The dogs were very supportive of this business strategy.

Supporting Local Pet Businesses

Pet Fest also creates an opportunity for independently owned pet businesses to connect directly with the people they serve.

That matters in a rapidly growing community like Horizon West.

As new neighborhoods are built and new families move in, residents are constantly looking for trusted local resources.

Pet Fest creates a place where those relationships can begin in person.

For The Savvy Sitter, it is not simply about having a booth.

It is about being part of the local pet-care network.

We regularly interact with veterinarians, groomers, trainers, rescues, and other pet professionals, because good pet care is often a team effort.

Events like this help strengthen those connections.

Horizon West Pet Fest 2026

Now Horizon West Pet Fest is preparing for its third year.

The 2026 event is scheduled for:

Saturday, October 17, 2026
9:00 AM–1:00 PM
Hamlin Green Space
14111 Shoreside Way, Winter Garden, Florida

The event will once again bring together pet parents, animal lovers, local vendors, businesses, and community organizations.

And The Savvy Sitter will be excited to be part of the fun.

If you are attending, make sure you stop by our booth.

Come meet members of the team.

Ask us your pet-care questions.

Learn more about professional pet sitting and dog walking.

Pick up some goodies.

And definitely bring your pup over to investigate whatever treats we have planned this year.

Watching a New Tradition Grow

There is something fun about seeing a community tradition while it is still young.

Horizon West Pet Fest does not have decades of history behind it.

Yet.

Its history is being written right now.

The families who attended the first Pet Fest in 2024 are becoming returning visitors.

The puppies who came to the inaugural event will one day be senior dogs.

New businesses will join.

New rescues will participate.

New families will move to Horizon West and discover Pet Fest for the first time.

And each year, another chapter gets added.

At The Savvy Sitter, we are proud to have been part of Horizon West Pet Fest from its inaugural year and excited to continue watching it grow.

Because Horizon West has always been a community shaped by the people who choose to participate in it.

Thankfully, our pets get to participate too.

Sit. Stay. Come say hello at Horizon West Pet Fest. 🐾
